Ultima Underworld and Syndicate are returning to GOG and now they’re free
In June, Ultima Underworld and Syndicate have been faraway from GOG on the “publisher’s request”, which writer was Digital Arts. The explanations for the removing have not been made clear, resulting in hypothesis that EA was planning to make them unique to Origin or, dare you dream, do one thing new with the sequence. Whatever the specifics, it was a loss: each video games are very outdated (Underworld got here out in 1992, Syndicate adopted in ’93), however they’re absolute milestones of their genres and are nonetheless nice enjoyable so long as you keep on with the very ones outdated interfaces.
The excellent news is that they’re again, and the even higher information is that they are all free for the subsequent few weeks: by way of September third, Syndicate Plus, Syndicate Wars, and Ultima Underworld 1 and a couple of (they arrive in a single package deal) are free to take and hold perpetually.
“It seems that after twenty years these titles are still very popular, so we are happy to announce that they are back on GOG with immediate effect and we will keep them in store for the foreseeable future.” EA mentioned. “To celebrate, we’re making these games a free download for four weeks.”
The announcement says nothing about refunds, however retro gamers who rushed to get some or all of them earlier than they have been eliminated in June will not be caught. Syndicate house owners say within the feedback that their order historical past lists now have hyperlinks to request refunds to allow them to be reclaimed without spending a dime, and Ultima Underworld does too. The date of buy does not appear to matter: I purchased it in 2013 and the hyperlink remains to be there. (And no, I will not click on on it.)
